Troop 116 is a boy-run troop. This means adults helping provide
the needed structure to support and
mentor the older scouts while helping them train the younger scouts. It is
hard sometimes to allow the boys to fail, but surprisingly they
almost always do a much better job than us adults. [see
Parent Guide for more info on the Patrol
Method]

Physical & Mental
Development
Our indoor and outdoor programs are designed to offer progressively greater
challenges as our Scouts mature. From a focused program for 1st year Scouts and
older Scouts with a variety of high adventure activities, we strive to help our
youth achieve development of both their bodies and their minds.
Leadership
Development
We're committed to being a "boy-run troop". An annual planning conference held
each fall establishes the themes, activities, and service opportunities for the
coming year. Adults coach and assist to ensure safety and adherence to Scout
policy, but Scouts are responsible for planning and conducting Troop meetings
and outings.
Character
Development
Never before have our youth had a greater need for an opportunity to develop the
values that will serve them, their families, and their communities throughout
their adult lives. We're committed to having a good time, but we expect all
Scouts to adhere to the principles of their Oath and Law. Once they've mastered
their "Scout Skills", we expect them to work equally hard to master the "Life
Skills" they will need in the future. "Strong Values -- Strong Leaders --
Character Counts!"
The
adults on a camp-out also utilize the patrol method. Their patrol name is the
“Rocking Chair Patrol” to remind them to ‘take the back seat’ and “let the boys
lead.’ For each outing, there will be an adult leader who will be the campout
patrol leader. Other adults will fulfill the roles of quartermaster, grubmaster,
etc. just like the boys. We Lead by Example. [how
